The Chartland Home

We deliberate at great length the individual layout, design and detail of each property to ensure our developments integrate, blend and harmonise with their surroundings and setting within the community. This involves incorporating aspects of local architectural detail and materials into each development.

Our Beliefs

At all cost, we avoid computer cloned regimental style homes that are so common today on new-build developments.

We believe in good architecture, quality and proportion in relation to scale and density: with these values, we can still competitively offer these stunning homes to the market by developing, building and controlling each scheme in-house,  from conception to completion.

Our Responsibilities

It can be seen that, other than Listed Buildings or areas in designated conservation areas, Britain has no really effective or co-ordinated way of preserving and protecting our vernacular architecture for fear of stifling the speed and delivery of much needed new housing stock. This brings a large responsibility placed on those in the vital business of delivering new homes.

With this responsibility, we feel we have a vital role in conserving our inheritance to ensure new homes are appropriately and sympathetically rooted and integrated into their immediate surroundings.

We are adamant that all of our materials and services – where possible – are resourced from local family-owned-and-run companies to ensure the financial and employment benefits are contained within the local community.

How it all started

More than 25 years ago, we began restoring and converting complexes of Listed and protected buildings and, having converted buildings to provide more than 150 individual homes, were challenged by the opportunity to use our skills and principles to build new homes on open sites.

We have always had a collaborative approach by working with a team of experts from Architects and Technicians, Interior and Architectural Designers, Planning experts, project managers and time served craftsmen.

A shared vision

Chartland Homes comprise several different companies with each either specialising in a particular type of property or area of Shropshire, Cheshire and Wales.

The companies are directed and managed by Christopher Shaw, a Chartered Surveyor living in Shropshire, and Stephen Bennett who lives on the Cheshire Welsh borders.

Both share the same vision and principles: their complementary skills and industry experience has ensured the companies under Chartland Homes have remained successful in both the challenging and prosperous periods.
